Description
I’m working on Portabase, a self-hosted, open-source tool for managing database backups and restores. It currently supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB, with MongoDB coming soon. It uses an agent-based architecture with a central server and lightweight agents, enabling deployment at the edge and operation across multiple networks.Website: https://portabase.ioGitHub: https://github.com/Portabase/portabaseDiscord (newly created): https://discord.gg/Wgv7xZ8fWJMain features:- Scheduled logical backups with multiple retention strategies (n-backups, n-days, Grandfather-Father-Son)- Storage options: local filesystem and S3-compatible storage- Notifications on backup success/failure via email, Slack, Discord, Ntfy, Telegram, and webhooks- Organizations with role-based permissions for managing separate databases- Designed for self-hosted deployments with a ready-to-go Docker Compose setupStack:- Next.js for the central server- Rust with Tokio for agents (recently refactored from Python)I’d love feedback from the HN community on usability, additional storage targets, and features to make it more production-ready. Feel free to open issues or start discussions on GitHub.

Yes The tool uses standard native database dump utilities (pg_dump, mysqldump) coordinated via a Go/Rust daemon or lightweight HTTP agent communicating with a central management dashboard.
