Description

ata is a JSON Schema validator for JavaScript. It passes the whole official test suite and ranks first in all six validation and parsing tables on schemabenchmarks.dev. Errors say what is wrong and where, down to line and column. It runs where code generation is blocked, such as Cloudflare Workers, and its pattern engine is linear-time, so one crafted string cannot stall a server. With the bundler plugin, new Validator(schema) compiles away to a few KB.

Could you build this?

No Building a standards-compliant JSON Schema validator that beats top benchmarks without JIT/codegen requires extreme performance optimization, deep spec knowledge, and rigorous parser architecture.

What it would actually take: A production-grade JSON Schema engine requires writing a hand-optimized zero-allocation recursive descent parser and evaluator in TypeScript/JavaScript or Rust (compiled to WebAssembly). The hard part is fully adhering to complex JSON Schema drafts (draft-07, 2020-12) including dynamic references, recursive schemas, and fine-grained error reporting (AST token line/column tracking) while running under strict environments like Cloudflare Workers. It demands specialized knowledge in compiler theory, formal specifications, and low-level V8 engine optimization.
