Description

LinkedQL is a new SQL client that supports live queries over any Postgres, MySQL, and MariaDB database. You get result sets that self-update differentially as rows change in your database – via inserts, updates, deletes. Works with no extra tooling/ORM layer or GraphQL servers. You opt into live mode simply with a flag: client.query('SELECT ...', { live: true }). More at: https://linked-ql.netlify.app/capabilities/live-queriesLinkedQL is written in JavaScript and runs in both client and server environments.GitHub + docs: https://github.com/linked-db/linked-qlDemo examples included.I’d love feedback: • Anything confusing? • Anything seems useful or dangerous? • Anything else that'd make you consider LinkedQL for production? Thanks for taking a look — happy to answer any questions.

Could you build this?

No Real-time differential live queries over standard SQL databases require database change-data-capture (CDC), query AST parsing, and complex incremental view maintenance (IVM) algorithms.

What it would actually take: The architecture requires hooking into PostgreSQL logical replication (wal2json/pgoutput) and MySQL binary logs (binlog), parsing arbitrary SQL queries into relational algebra trees, and computing differential delta updates whenever underlying tables mutate (incremental view maintenance). This involves advanced database internals, formal relational algebra rewriting, and high-performance in-memory delta caches.

Discussion

20 comments analyzed.

Competitors mentioned: Webflo (their own framework for long-lived connections), Zero (Rocicorp's sync framework), Postgres extensions, REST APIs with WebSocket subscriptions

Concerns raised: PostgreSQL limits logical replication slots via max_replication_slots, MySQL/MariaDB support still in progress, not yet production-ready, WAL slot consumption at scale with multiple instances, Deployment lifecycle and code changes with live queries, Schema migration story incomplete in current version

Feature requests: Deployment diagram and documentation for setup, Multi-instance coordination and load balancing for live queries, Postgres extension for tighter operational integration, FlashQL frontend persistence backends (IndexedDB/LocalStorage), Automatic schema versioning and diff-based migrations
