Description
The Bayeux Tapestry has returned to England for the first time since it was made, nearly a thousand years ago. To widen access and help people explore the Tapestry in more detail, the British Museum commissioned Numiko to create an interactive online experience. The result of this project is The Bayeux Tapestry Online Experience, a free interactive experience that you can use to explore the full length of the Tapestry in close detail.

Could you build this?
Partial The viewer UI can be built with standard deep-zoom tile viewers like OpenSeadragon, but high-resolution gigapixel digitization and curated museum annotations require specialized museum access and professional imaging.
What it would actually take: The frontend uses OpenSeadragon or Leaflet with DZI (Deep Zoom Image) tiling to seamlessly pan and zoom a 70-meter gigapixel image. The hard parts are obtaining high-resolution multi-spectral scans from official museum archives, stitching the multi-gigabyte imagery without distortion, and curating historical metadata. A production setup requires a CDN-backed tile server, Leaflet/OpenSeadragon, and historical content expertise.
