Description

I worked at GCP from 2017 and 2022 when Google was trying to figure how important it was to support PyTorch on GCP's managed training and inference services. At the time, it was really hard to get a sense for the extent to which PyTorch had made the jump from academia to industry. One of the best sources of technographic data in industry is job post data. When employers are hiring employees who are skilled with a technology, that's a strong indicator that the technology has made the jump. So with that in mind, I put together a simple app that shows which technologies are trending in job posts from the last 3 years. I using rolling averages to smooth the charts and making it easier to see trends.

Could you build this?

Partial The frontend dashboard and analytics display are easily vibe-coded, but continuously ingesting, deduplicating, and parsing millions of job postings from across the web requires dedicated crawling infrastructure.

What it would actually take: A production version requires an automated web scraping and ingestion pipeline using tools like Scrapy, Playwright, or commercial job board APIs, feeding into an Elasticsearch or PostgreSQL cluster. The data pipeline must handle proxy rotation, site anti-bot measures, entity extraction (NER via LLMs or spaCy) to identify tech stacks, and regular scheduled aggregations. A solo developer can build the UI and basic analytics, but building robust crawlers resilient to widespread anti-scraping protections requires substantial backend data engineering.

Attention rank: #26 of 27 (itself plus its competitors, highest first — normalized so YC and Product Hunt are compared fairly).

Looks like the first mover among its competitors.
