Description

I'm building out Kerns, as an AI environment for research. You can seed a space with a topic and multiple source documents, and complete your research completely in one space. There's interactive mindmaps for exploration, podcast mode, powerful source readers with original plus chapter level summaries that let you zoom into source on demand, a powerful chat agent that lets you control context and cite refs, and AI assisted note taking. My goal is to have one place to do research on any topic which minimizes manual context engineering, and jumping around between chat/notes/readers.Please let me know if you try it and have feedback!

Could you build this?

Partial The interface, chat, and basic RAG pipeline are easy to vibe-code, but reliable auditability down to SEC 10-K document coordinates, table extraction, and trace-backed citations require complex document-parsing infra.

What it would actually take: Building this requires a robust OCR and layout-analysis pipeline (using PDFPlumber, Surya, or unstructured vision models) to preserve tabular structures and exact bounding box coordinates for SEC filings. The backend needs a hybrid retrieval architecture (vector + BM25/rerankers) coupled with structured LLM reasoning chains that output strict citation schemas linked to document coordinate traces, served via Next.js and high-speed document viewers.

Same idea, different domain

Nobody's really built a agent / copilot tool for Agriculture yet.
