Description

I started this project about ~3 weeks ago. Since CapCut is putting everything behind a paywall after gaining millions of installs and users, I decided to create a free and open-source version with most if not all the features.Concat runs all the AI-features locally, has MCP support, has a decentralized system for assets like Filters, Effects, and Templates so users can write custom assets and share with the community (or sell them even).Note: I’m self-taught dev and used Claude (Fable 5.1) heavily while building Concat.

Could you build this?

Partial While an Electron/web video editor UI can be vibe-coded, running performant local AI video models and complex non-linear video rendering pipelines requires specialized systems and multimedia engineering.

What it would actually take: A production version requires an Electron or Tauri frontend paired with a high-performance native media engine (C++/Rust via FFmpeg, WebGPU, or Metal) for frame-accurate non-linear editing. Integrating local AI features (like background removal or automatic captioning) demands optimized ONNX/TensorRT or CoreML pipelines to achieve acceptable performance across consumer hardware, requiring deep video pipeline and ML optimization experience.
